Learn to Roll
The web version is the original entry of the jam. To play the updated version, download the executable.
This is a prototype of a game developed for the GMTK Game Jam 2022.
The objective of the game is to roll a dice as far as possible.
- Press SPACE to roll the dice in the direction indicated by the green arrow.
You will receive points based on the distance reached and the resulting number of the roll. With those points, you can upgrade your dice (launch strength and roundness) to try to reach further:
- Click the '+' button next to the power graph with enough points (green number) to upgrade the launch strength.
- Click the '+' button next to the roundness text with enough points (green number) to increase the roundness of the dice.
Inspired by the simple yet adictive games of repetition and point farming.
It was solo developed and unluckily I could not spend even half of the time available during the jam. However, it contains the basic mechanics to grasp the gameplay loop of what would be the fully developed project:
- Upgrades to the dice. Currently two, but this can be increased with new ideas, such as better throwing objects(instead of the cup), less friction surface...
- Map with obstacles to surpass. Currently only one at the beginning to get the idea at early game.
- Map with different levels. After certain upgrades we can get to the "second level" which is falling from the table to the ground. Currently the ground is empty, but allows to get the feeling of improvement.
- Being able to increase the roundness of the dice, opens the door for more customization: materials, dot distribution, colors or even number of faces.
